Box Truck Ministry

E-mail Print PDF

What an exciting experience it has been putting this first issue together as new managing editor of CMI! It has been a challenge and a joy, but ministry work for God most always is.

Speaking of ministry, I want to share my experience with what I refer to as the “Box Truck Ministry.” I was stuck in traffic on my way home from work one evening, struggling with a crisis of faith. I had medical, financial, and personal issues attacking me all at once. I did not understand. I was serving God! Why was this happening to me?

Pouring my heart out to God, I cried, “I do not understand, God. It seems the more I do for You, the more You are withholding Your blessings from me! Please, help me! I know You are the answer, but I need You to answer me. Please, God, answer me!” Instantly, my eyes were drawn across four lanes of traffic, and there in big bold black block lettering on the back of a white box truck was this verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11(NIV) Wow! Thank you, God.

However, it does not end there! A few days later, I had a client come into my office. “I want to tell you about what happened to me the other day,” he says. Turns out, he was having a crisis of faith. He had been exposed to a scientific attack on Christianity that shook his beliefs. He was struggling and obsessing over it day and night. Finally, he asked God to give him a sign. In the morning at his work, “something” pulled him from his routine tasks, and drew him to the truck yard. There in big bold black block lettering on the back of a white box truck was this verse: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. — Romans 10:9 (NIV) Double wow!

I have to wonder just how many folks God is using these Bible-verse-bearing-box-trucks to reach. A very simple act of service delivering very real miracles.

It just goes to show, we should never underestimate the importance of what we do for God. After all — your simple act of service could be someone else’s miracle!
