Piastri: Lifting less than Lando key to lap 1 move
Piastri on winning the Belgian Grand Prix: "Lively, very lively! I knew that lap one was probably my best chance of winning the race. I lifted as little as I dared through Eau Rouge and then it was enough. The rest of the race we managed really well, maybe the medium wasn't the best in the last five-six laps."
"We had it mostly under control, which I wanted. I was pretty disappointed with myself after yesterday, but turns out starting second isn't too bad.
"I was a bit disappointed it was a rolling start as I thought it would take away some opportunity. But I got a good exit through Turn 1, and when I got close I knew I was going to lift a little bit less than Lando did."
Norris: "I couldn't have won today"
Norris on second place: "Oscar just did a good job [at the start], nothing more to say, committed a bit more through Eau Rouge. That was it, nothing I could do after that point. Oscar deserved it today.
"It's shoulda-woulda-coulda; Oscar deserved and I'm sure he made a couple of mistakes too. I couldn't have won today. I'll review my things, it's our first 1-2 here for many years so I'll bring that back for the team."
Leclerc on "never easy" defence against Verstappen
Leclerc on finishing third: "Max was behind all race within two seconds, so it's never easy. I knew the first part of the race was the trickiest for us as we didn't have the downforce. I'm pretty happy that we managed to keep that third place."
"The pressure is high, especially in those conditions as if you're 10-15cm out of the line it's greasy and you can do a very big mistake. At one point I told Bryan to leave me alone!"
Liam Lawson clinches eighth over Gabriel Bortoleto, as Pierre Gasly's train-driving antics have rewarded him with 10th place.
Charles Leclerc preserves third to convert his grid slot, beating Max Verstappen after a difficult fight early on with the intermediates. Russell finishes fifth, as Albon holds on to sixth over Hamilton.
Oscar Piastri wins the Belgian Grand Prix!
A phenomenal drive by Piastri - huge ask to do that stint on the mediums and push to stay ahead of Norris, but he stayed cool and let Norris make the errors. Huge win for the Australian.
Lap 44
Leclerc has managed to shore up his advantage over Verstappen and should have the final podium position secured. Hamilton's having a final look at Albon, but it looks like the Williams has been able to stay afloat ahead.
Lap 43
Norris locks up again at La Source - that's game over out front as loses over a second. Match point Piastri.
Bearman's renewed his charge late on and breaks past Tsunoda, pouncing when the Red Bull driver falls out of Gasly's DRS range.
Lap 42
Norris is 3.6s behind Piastri at the start of the lap, but it falls to 3.1s by the end of the lap. We must praise Piastri for being absolutely faultless out in front, on old mediums and yet doing enough to keep his head well above water.
"Couple of drops in Turn 1," could be a possibility, according to Piastri's radio traffic.
Lap 41
Norris gets within four seconds of Piastri, but it'll be incredible if he makes up the gap given his earlier mistakes.
Verstappen is just on the cusp of breaking DRS range to Leclerc, as the Ferrari driver is starting to toil on his mediums.
Lap 40
"Cells of rain developing - currently clear, but we are monitoring," Hadjar is told.
Ocon is starting his own train, with Antonelli and Alonso chasing but struggling to find away through behind the very trimmed out Haas.
Lap 39
Piastri has to deal with traffic in the form of Hadjar, who's had a bit of a dismal afternoon. 5.1s between Piastri and Norris out front.
Bearman has a little waft at Tsunoda on the straight but he can't find a way past as the Japanese driver still has DRS on Gasly.
Hulkenberg might join this trio soon as he's now cleared Stroll, and has 20-lap-younger tyres.
Lap 38
Leclerc had a lock-up at the chicane, which has brought Verstappen back into view - he's just a second behind the Ferrari driver now. "I have no information then when he's getting close I have too much, keep it consistent," Leclerc pleads as he asks Bryan Bozzi to reduce the radio traffic.
Lap 37
Hamilton drops out of DRS range of Albon once more, as his second assault doesn't quite pay off.
Norris is now 6.3s off Piastri, so progress is coming but not quite to the level he needs.
Lap 36
Piastri - 7.2 - Norris, as we were about three laps ago. To win this, Norris would need a second a lap on Piastri, which I think might be a tad ambitious.
Bearman took a break from the Gasly Express, but he's back on Tsunoda's tail after a bit of recharge and cooldown.
Lap 35
Antonelli dispatches Ocon, but the Frenchman hits back and reclaims the place - good move from the Haas driver. Antonelli went around the outside, went too hot into Turn 6, and Ocon stayed on his tail to make the place.
Lap 34
Locking up at La Source won't help Norris, who loses more time trying to catch Piastri. Gap now back up to eight seconds - Piastri will happily take that.
Let your rivals make their own mistakes appears to be Piastri's mantra, as Norris is told not to try to push each braking point.
Lap 33
"Degradation looks as expected, we still think the best thing to do is go to the end". "Happy with that," Piastri reports.
7.2s between Norris and Piastri - the Briton has 11 laps and really needs to pick up the pace.
Lap 32
The Gasly Express is getting shorter, as the all-stopping rear carriages stopped off in the pitlane. Tsunoda and Bearman might even be stuck behind him in the check-in queue later.
Hulkenberg pits from 10th to pick up a set of new mediums. He rejoins ahead of Ocon in 14th.
Lap 31
Albon has his mirrors full of Hamilton now along the Kemmel Straight, as Williams hopes to lock in a sixth-place finish.
Antonelli pits for mediums, responding to Alonso's earlier stop, and rejoins the circuit just ahead.
Lap 30
Piastri is just calmly going about his business, just trying to reduce the lap time loss to Norris by managing his pace and ensuring he's able to do another 14 laps on the mediums.
Still, Norris is rather picking up the pace to make up for his earlier Pouhon error.
Alonso stops for a second time, and endures a slow stop in the process.
Lap 29
Colapinto pits having spent his afternoon being passed left, right, and centre.
Hamilton, meanwhile, has picked up the pace and is closing on Albon to get back within DRS range.
Lap 28
Antonelli earlier passed Alonso as the Aston Martin driver drops out of the Gasly Express. Tsunoda has Bearman nipping at his heels, but he still appears no closer to clearing the Frenchman in front.
Norris ups the pace and recovers about half a second.
Lap 27
Yeah, Norris went off at Pouhon, so that explains that, and he's lost a bit more time as he tries to stabilise.
Sainz gets a track limits warning.
Lap 26
Norris has made a mistake somewhere as the gap out front is now up to 9.1s - unless Piastri did a lap that was 1.5s quicker. But, given Norris has a laptime deletion, he's hurt himself somewhere.
Sainz pits as he hits the limit of the mediums.
Lap 25
Tsunoda really needs to start working La Source a little bit harder and focusing the deployment there to clear Gasly.
Norris is closing the door to Piastri again, cracking the eight-second barrier and hoping to whittle that gap away further.
Lap 24
Tsunoda's struggling to break Gasly down, as the low-drag Alpine is finding a lick of pace on the straights.
Bortoleto's still trying to close Lawson, but progress is steady. 1.3s the gap at the moment.
Lap 23
We've passed half-distance. Norris is keeping the gap at 8.2s at the front, with Leclerc the same margin behind him.
Lap 22
Piastri opens the gap a little bit and gets the gap to 8.2s. Verstappen's finding a bit of pace on Leclerc, as he's dropped Russell.
Gasly's leading a train of Tsunoda, Bearman, and Alonso - while Sainz reports that the medium is starting to degrade pretty quickly.
Lap 21
Norris closes the gap to under eight seconds on Piastri. Leclerc is another 6.5s back, with Verstappen 2.3s behind the Ferrari.
"What you're doing looks good, it's your call whether to stop for another set or get to the end," Piastri is told, but the Australian says that there's already degradation.
Lap 20
Hulkenberg complies with the demand to let Bortoleto through, and gives his younger team-mate a tow. Problem is, it seems Lawson has picked up the pace a bit.
Antonelli clears Colapinto for 15th, and now has Alonso to chase.
Tsunoda has closed Gasly down to sit in DRS range, and will need to make a move soon as Bearman is on his tail.
Lap 19
Norris has closed the gap to Piastri to 8.4s, and can keep turning the screw.
The others at the front have spaced out, as Russell drops out of Verstappen's DRS range, Hamilton has stalled out behind Albon, and Hulkenberg gets the command to let Bortoleto past and try to attack Lawson.
Lap 18
We've got DRS active but the drivers are struggling to maintain the range. Bortoleto is in Hulkenberg's wake, as the two are trying to clear Lawson.
Hadjar, another driver who stopped late and lost positions, gets passed by Stroll. Quite painful for those who had to wait that extra lap.
Lap 17
Bearman puts the moves on Alonso to move up to 13th, as he aims to reclaim the paces he lost in the stops. Tsunoda, another later stopper, is just ahead.
"Both cars will try to get to the end. The other car might have to do some pace management to make it work," Norris is told. In other words, push.
Lap 16
Piastri leads by 8.9s; Norris should have tyres to the end, Piastri can try but he'll have to manage them. Verstappen's charge vs Leclerc has abated as he experiences clipping on the straights, which means Russell can stick with him.
Hulkenberg is now on Lawson's tail and aiming for eighth.
Lap 15
Russell's still buzzing around Verstappen's gearbox, while Albon has Hamilton for company.
Both Haases missed out in the stops too, as the earlier stops were the way to go.
Norris fires up his hard tyres and starts to stop the slide versus Piastri.
Lap 14
Hamilton's pit time has helped him considerably, as he gets up to seventh place. Hulkenberg, also playing the conditions to perfection again, moves up to ninth.
Tsunoda is one of those to lose out among the stops, coming out in 12th as he stopped on the same lap as Norris.
Lap 13
Tsunoda, Hadjar, and Ocon stayed out. Verstappen had to wait for Leclerc to leave his box, as Leclerc went out in front of Albon. This has put Russell onto Verstappen's tail now.
Hamilton clears Liam Lawson as the Kiwi gets up to speed.
Norris pits and takes the hard tyre with the intent of going towards the end. He's come out 6s behind Piastri, so that extra lap hasn't helped..for now, at least.
Lap 12
Hulkenberg, Gasly, and Alonso also make the switch to slicks, all taking mediums.
We'll keep an eye on sector times...as Piastri now makes the call to come in. Norris stays out, Leclerc will come in, Verstappen, Russell, and Albon follow suit.
